Peace Region · Northern Alberta
Glamping in Alberta.
A guide to the Peace Region's most distinctive wilderness dome stay — north of Grande Prairie, deep in the boreal forest, where the Fire & Ice experience was born.
Why the Peace Region
The north has its own kind of quiet.
When travellers ask about the best glamping in Alberta, the conversation usually turns south — to the Rockies, to Banff, to the well-trodden mountain circuit. But some of the province's most distinctive unique places to stay in Alberta sit far to the north, in the Peace Region, where the boreal forest stretches unbroken to the horizon and the night sky opens into something few southerners ever see.
This is the country around Grande Prairie, Dawson Creek, and Fort St. John — a landscape of rolling Saddle Hills, still lakes, and a forest that has stood for centuries. It is quieter than the mountains, wilder than the foothills, and far less crowded. For guests searching for glamping near Grande Prairie or a weekend getaway in the Peace Region, the reward is solitude you can actually feel.
Woods & Wild was built here on purpose. One private geodesic dome, set back into the trees, with no visible neighbours and no light pollution. It is one of the few dome stays in northern Alberta designed entirely around a single experience — not a resort, not a row of units, but one stay at a time.

Why a dome
A room with the whole sky.
A geodesic dome is not just a shape — it is a way of seeing. The panoramic, sky-facing windows mean you do not look out at nature from behind a wall; you sleep beneath it. By day, the boreal canopy frames your morning. By night, the dome becomes a stargazing stay in Alberta with no equal — and from September through March, the northern lights often drift across the glass while you're still in bed.
For couples searching for a romantic getaway in Alberta that feels genuinely removed, the dome's single-room layout keeps everything close — the bed, the fireplace, the view — while the forest does the rest. It is one of the most unique stays in northern Alberta precisely because it asks nothing of you but presence.
The Fire & Ice experience
Heat, cold, and the return.
What sets Woods & Wild apart from other glamping in Alberta is the signature Fire & Ice contrast-therapy experience — a private wood-fired hot tub paired with a cold plunge, set among the trees. The practice of alternating heat and cold trains the vascular system, steadies the nervous system, and leaves you sleeping deeper than you have in a long time.
Few glamping sites with a hot tub in Alberta pair the heat with a true cold plunge, and fewer still offer both privately — yours alone, with no schedule and no audience. It is the centrepiece of the stay and the thing guests remember longest.

Where we are
Close enough to reach, far enough to feel it.
Woods & Wild sits north of Grande Prairie, Alberta, in the Saddle Hills near the Hamlet of Woking. The drive from Grande Prairie is roughly 45 minutes. From Dawson Creek, BC, allow just over an hour, and from Fort St. John, BC, about 2 hours. From Edmonton, plan for roughly 4.5 hours by road.
The closest commercial airport is Grande Prairie Airport (YQU), about 45 minutes away. The Hamlet of Woking has a general store less than five minutes from the property, and the towns of Spirit River and Rycroft are roughly 15 minutes further for groceries, fuel, and a hot meal if you want one.

What a stay feels like
One dome. One stay. The Wild all around.
Because there is only one dome, every stay is private. You arrive, park out of sight, and walk a few minutes into the trees. There is no Wi-Fi — by design — and a voluntary "surrender box" to tuck your phone away if you choose. The dome holds a plush bed beneath the sky windows, a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom with hot water. Outside: the hot tub, the cold plunge, a fire pit, walking trails, and the quiet.
